When possible collect smooth rocks and stones, no smaller than a button and up to slightly bigger than your child’s fist. Beaches are the best places, but by river and sometimes lakes you will also find smooth pebbles in different sizes.
Get your child to find similarities in the shape of the stones to different animals. Or create shapes using different sized pebbles. Use the larger stones for the main body and the smaller ones for the head, you could also ad feet and arms.
Glue the stones togeter together to the preferred animal or shape. Colour the stones or pebbles and use a marker pen for smaller details such as eyes, hair and mouths.
You can also use things like moss, cotton, bark or anything you can think off to make different effects of hair, clothing or fur. Just glue it on where suitable. Cotton can be coloured and dried before gluing it on.
