A Halloween scarecrow

E-mail Print PDF

FunCrafts_School_Kids_1011_Halloween_scarecrowWith Halloween and the midterm coming up, you might be looking for activities for the kids. While you can buy most of your Halloween decorations cheaply, you can entertain kids with a simple and fun Halloween idea.

Make up your own Halloween scarecrow to decorate your garden or front porch. A simple craft project that will liven up the holiday and be one of the fun activities for kids over the midterm.

What you need

Old clothes, such as shirt, blouse, pants or skirt

Twine or string

Safety pins or thread and needle

Pillowcase or pumpkin for the head

Straw, newspapers or rags for stuffing

Stakes, sturdy sticks or bamboo rods

What you do

Create a cross with the stakes and put on the shirt or blouse, allowing the arms to go on the horizontal part of the cross.

Stuff the clothes with the straw, rags or newspaper, creating a body. Pin the pants or skirt onto the stuffed shirt.

If you are using a pumpkin you can just press it into the top of the cross. If you choose to make your own head, stuff the pillowcase and tie it into a ball with the twine or string. The best is to tie it directly to the top of the cross.

Your basic scarecrow is now done. Make a face on the pillowcase or pumpkin with a pen or other decorations. Let your child use his imagination and decorate the scarecrow with whatever he wishes.
