There are few things that children love as much as water. Put a steady chair by the kitchen sink, throw in a few plastic bowls, cups, cutlery and bottles. Fill up the sink or let the tap run in a trickle. The best is to have your child in a long-sleeved apron, but any other protection will do. Make sure you remove the washing up liquid or anything breakable, and explain that water needs to be in the sink, not the floor or counters.
Have a tea towel and washcloth ready for any water that spills out. This can keep your child busy for about a half hour.
