A painting game to do together with your child. You might feel your painting skills are lacking, but in this game you are not confronting an art critic and most of us know the basics of drawing a picture.
Create and tell a story with your child and illustrate it together. Keep the story simple and ask your child plenty of questions related to the story. It can be as simple as a boy or girl, walking in the forest and picking flowers.
There is no need for fancy paper, just get a couple of old sheets of newspapers. Tell several stories or retell the same one changing minor things. Pain the basic shapes while your are talking, and let your child help, both painting other bits of the story or colouring in. Your child will understand what your are paining, your words and his imagination will fill in for the lack of your painting skill.
Ask plenty of questions to develop the story. Ask your child about the colour of the clothes? What colour are trees and flowers? Are trees taller or shorter than children? Are there clouds in the sky? Is the grass blue or green? The story is simple, but the questions will both show your interest in your child and help him think and learn about shapes, colours, shapes and sizes.
