Use your toddler natural curiosity to create a game for him to identify and recognise shapes and colours. It can be done inside the house or outdoors for the more organised and adventurous.
Simple first
Cut out basic shapes in different coloured papers, such as squares, stars, triangles and circles. Stick them up around the house or garden. Give your toddler a paper with shapes drawn on it, let him search for the shapes you have placed and tick them off in his paper. He could also tick the colours he has found.
More complicated
Give your toddler a paper with basic shapes on it and let him find the shapes freely in the house or outdoors, such as a rectangle for the telly or windows, and so on. This will require a bit of your attention to verify and discuss the shapes and colours with him.
What you need
