FunCrafts_Little_Tots_0511_Home_made_pull_toyKids love pulling things on a string, particularly if it makes noise. A very simple, fun and cheap way of making an interesting and unusual toy for your children is a box toy train.

Collect a few items for the train, such as small cardboard boxes in different sizes, juice boxes or small plastic bottles. Make two small holes with a scissor or knife, on each side of the item, so that you can pull the string through.

To keep the string in place you can either make a big knot or tie the string around a stick or piece of cardboard, to keep the box in place. Do the same with the other boxes, spacing them out on the string and making it look like a train of boxes.

What you need

Small cardboard boxes, different sizes
Other light recycling items, such as juice boxes, small plastic bottles
String
Scissors or knife

Tips!

•    Bottles can be filled with noisy items, such as dried pasta. Beware of the choking hazard and avoid using beads with very small children.
•    If you use boxes with lids, you child can place toys and teddies inside each box in the train.
