Sounds easy enough, but at this age it could be pretty messy. Do it on the floor or table, protect your items with newspaper and remember the walls, furniture and curtains could also be splashed. Don't forget to have a few wet baby wipes or kitchen towels ready, your child might want to clean his hands or you might want to clean him before he starts reaching for the curtains.
Get liquid child friendly colours, about two or three are enough. Try teaching your child about creating colours, such as mixing blue and yellow to make green. Let him feel the paint and cover a full white paper. Try buying good thick paper that will take the excess colour that your child will use and won't fall apart with the first soggy handprints.
Forget about trying to make shapes, just let your child enjoy the colours and the feel of the paint. While you are at it take his hand a print a card. A nice gift for the absent parent or a grand parent.
What you need:
Non-toxic paints in various colours
