Why Less Means More When Raising Kids
by Tom Hodgkinson
Contradicting most of what we read or are told by professionals, simply by stating that parents should not interfere and leave children alone. While the opinions of this parenting book sound at times shocking, Hodgkinson simply states that we limit our children's lives with our constant interference and need to control all aspects of their day.
We fret that we don't do enough and end up over stimulating them by scheduling every kind of activity for them, and depriving them of developing self reliance and imagination, which only comes from a bit of boredom.
This is a fathers philosophy on parenting, it does not have extensive research to rely on and can be at times be a bit too altruistic. While the book should not be read as a guide, rather as a moment to consider your expectations of yourself as a parent.
It might be a book that makes you realise that your children will survive and maybe even thrive if you leave them to themselves for a bit.
