The on-going nationwide celebration of Irish heritage still has plenty of fun activities and things to do in Ireland. Organised by groups across the country, the National Heritage Week is a great chance to experience things near and far from you, fun things for children and great family days out nationwide.
On the National Heritage Week website you can search for all activities in your area or other areas you are planning to visit. Many activities are organised for the general public, but families with children can search the specific 'Events under 12s'.
We have chosen a few of our favourite upcoming activities for the kids:
• Family Woodland Wildlife Tour in Killarney, Co. Kerry, 27th August 2011, 2pm-6pm.
Exploring woods and meadows of the Killarney National Park, and learning about bugs, flowers and trees.
Cost: €5
• Irish legends, masks and face painting at The Painter's Palette Gallery, Galway, 27th August 2011, 10am-12pm.
Create masks and getting a face paint done, all inspired by Irish stories and myths told at the event. Suitable for children between ages five and twelve.
Cost: Free
• Tradition Crafts and Skills at Newbridge House and Farm in Donabate, Co. Dublin, daily until the 28th August 2011, 12pm-4pm.
See sheep sheared by hand, traditional spinning, farrier and more, plus the kids get a chance to help out with the animals.
Cost: €4 adult, €3 child, €10 family ticket.
