Family_getaway_Feature2_0810_Find_a_sliThe Irish Heart foundation has developed 164 marked and established walking routes across Ireland, to encourage people of all ages to walk and develop a healthier lifestyle. The routes are marked with colourful signposts at every kilometre. You can also download the route directly from the IHF website.

Regular walking not only relieves stress and controls weight, but also gives you more energy. As a family it's one of the cheapest ways to do something together, just choose the right route for you and get started. Adults need at least 30 minutes of moderate activity, five days a week.

Start at a suitable level for your fitness level and your age, remember that older children usually will be able to keep up and younger ones will tire out faster. The regular exercise will improve the whole family's health, but also help your children with their concentration and sleeping habits. You could keep a record of you walking, to encourage you and keep you disciplined. Engage your children and decide on a treat when you've reached your goal. To find a route near you visit The Irish Heart Foundation.
