Don't miss a bit of fun for book loving children at the ongoing book festival in Dun Laoghaire. All about books, a chance to meet the authors and plenty of fun activities and things to do with kids of all ages.
The Mountains to Sea book festival in Dun Laoghaire runs until the 11th of September. It has many literary events and activities for adults and children, many free or reasonably priced, making it a great choice for family days out.
Our favourite choices of activities for kids::
• Picture Book Picnic for the youngest children, with three of Ireland's favourite picture book writers and illustrators. Dress up as a favourite character, storytelling, colouring and a great book price.
Date and Time: 4th September 2011, 12pm-2pm.
Venue: People's Park (County Hall if it rains)

• Animal Madness with Mavis and Marge is a story and art workshop for young children with author and illustrator Niamh Sharkey. See our book review of Niamh's latest book On the Road With Mavis and Marge.

• Monster Family Book Quiz for book loving families that are willing to take on the challenge of answering trivia questions from favourite children's books. Suitable for kids aged seven and more. Do you know the difference between a Muggle and a Mudblood?
Date and time: 11th September 2011, 2:30pm-3:30pm.
Venue: County Hall
Cost: €10 per team (six or less, max three adults per team)
While not strictly a family event, take the chance to meet Oliver Jeffers, author of Lost and Found and the lovely The Heart and the Bottle, and hear him talk about making art on Sunday the 11th, suitable for adults and teens.
