Two books in one, two stories that mirror each other. The call of the wild, is the story of the dog Buck, how he is kidnapped from a Californian farm, becomes leader of sled dogs during the Gold Rush in Klondike, is called by the Alaskan wilderness and becomes part of it. In White Fang, the story starts on the opposite side when a wolf cub that is taken in by humans. He is made into a fighting dog by an unscrupulous owner, eventually he is domesticated an becomes a loved pet in the south. The stories are gripping and exiting, you get a gritty and hard picture of Alaska from a dog's perspective. Both are stories of survival, courage and transformation, of the need to keep going when things feel hopeless.
