Favourite rhymes for an Irish childhood
By Sara Webb and Claire Ranson
Illustrated by Steve McCarthy
A lovely collection of rhymes from childhood that you will want your children to learn and carry on. It has a great mixture of the common rhymes from the Mother Goose collection, such as Hey Diddle Diddle and Little Miss Muffet, but also purely Irish rhymes that you probably haven't heard in ages or ever heard at all, such as The Claddagh Boatman or the current favourite Two Cats of Kilkenny.
The book has quirky and humorous illustrations that tell whole stories by themselves. It is a great gift for pre-schoolers that are learning their rhymes.
Not only is it also an ideal book when you start reading to younger children, but all the royalties from the book are donation to the National Children's Hospital, Tallaght.
Two cats of Kilkenny
There once were two cats of Kilkenny,
Each thought there was one cat to many;
So they fought and they fit,
And they scratched and they bit,
Till, excepting their nails
And the tips of their tails,
Instead of two cats, there weren't any!
