I offered to help a friend of mine to do a few batches of baby food for her baby. It brought back memories of the large batches I used to make for my girls...mixed fruit pots, mixed vegetables purees, mixed veg with meat, no salt and always home-made.
Where did I get the energy? I couldn't even tell you, I put it down to madness and sheer stubbornness. I have fought hard with the treats that are continuously handed out to kids from everywhere. Well-meaning treats from generous people, that make me grind my teeth...see my several frustrated posts on the subject
.
In fairness I was not completely mad, my girls did go through short periods of shop bought jars of baby food, but their main staple of food has always been and still is home made.

I can imagine that this is not news to anyone out there; as I presume we have all been there. When we have our life sort of planned out and sometimes life just takes over, hijacks everything and throws your plans out the window. Which is what happened, which is why you have not hear from Parenthood.ie for a while.
Now, hoping to get back to some normality we will continue with the extreme sports type of life that parenting can be. Yes, we tend to exaggerate. Yes, parents have been doing it for hundreds of years. Yes, you just need to get on with it.
But all that will not stop us from having a bit of a moan, or sharing our parenting worries and frustrations. Really, who else but another parent will ever understand the feeling of drowning you can have when you have been machine gunned questions from a child for a full day.

One of my girls is worrying in me a bit. It is an issue that slowly has been developing, but over time has become more and more pronounced. I don't think it is anything to worry about, but as parents we always either take the mature approach of "it is probably just a phase" or the more neurotic one of "this will have horrible repercussions in the future of my child!"
The problem is not big and with a bit of patience we usually overcome it, but I admit it always takes me by surprise. For such a confident and self-contained child, my girl has an awful problem with change or trying new things. She really suffers when she is confronted with something new, whether it is a new experience, new item of clothing or new food she has to eat.

I can't seem to really get my head around Halloween. I can't seem to decide if it's just a hyped up holiday (which it actually is) allowing venues to promote special events (which they naturally do), or if it a great chance to have a really good time (which many have).
My kids are still too young to enjoy a good scare, so we tend to go slightly Wiccan celebrating witches and witchcraft. Ok, we don't actually have any odd rituals or such. We just enjoy the idea of magic and my girls love making potions with coloured bath salts and creams in a bucket.

I wonder if parents' of boys have the same problem. But if you have girls, and two at that, I can assure you that the decibels their little voices can reach will burst your eardrums.
What is it with little girls when they get excited or wound up, the agitated screeching becomes unbearable and penetrates any wall in the house. You feel like a real sour grape when you ask them to tone down and calm down.
