I wonder if parents' of boys have the same problem. But if you have girls, and two at that, I can assure you that the decibels their little voices can reach will burst your eardrums.
What is it with little girls when they get excited or wound up, the agitated screeching becomes unbearable and penetrates any wall in the house. You feel like a real sour grape when you ask them to tone down and calm down.
I don't mind too much unless I have to concentrate on something, but then it is as if their high pitched screeching sends an unwelcome electrical shock right through my ears and shakes my brain loose. My roaring is no less loud, just in a lower pitch and faster than lightning either they are thrown outdoors or the telly goes on.
Asking them to calm down gives me a reprieve of about 20 seconds, at most.
It is particularly one of my girls that has a challenging pitched voice, so piercing at times that her words get lost in that space that can break crystal.
They are lucky I love them to bits, because some days they really leave their parents in bits. And we carefully try to put them all together after bedtime, just to be able to face another day.

Bursting my eardrums
